FROM GARY MURFIN:

Hello Mac Classmates – I recently became aware of a new scholarship program for MacArthur HS that has been created by the Decatur Public Schools Foundation. This is not about our class, but the focus in on MacArthur HS. The scholarship is in honor of a MacArthur graduate (1964) who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions to save the lives of the men under his command during the war in Vietnam. During my military tour in Vietnam from 1969 and 1970, I often worked with teams like the one Doug Hagen commanded. I was with the Pacification Studies Group, we were not so covert, but worked with the Special Forces teams that were part of SOG. Being part of SOG was an extremely dangerous assignment.   Because of my personal association with the efforts of units such as Doug’s, I will be donating $500 (one year of funding) toward this scholarship. Attached is the press release announcing this MacArthur student scholarship. I am sure the Decatur Public Schools Foundation would appreciate any contributions people can make. Note that information on how to donate is at the end of the press release.  Thank You
